Charles J Roubique
Arvada - Charles J. Roubique, 94, died Saturday, April 8, 2017 following a brief stay in hospice care at Covenant Village Assisted Living.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Eleanor (Kimmell) Roubique; his son, Corwin Roubique; his daughter, Debra Robic and her husband, Robert Saunders, of Alpharetta, GA; his stepdaughter, Catharine Harned and her husband, Jeff Bell, of Toledo, OH; his stepdaughter Kay Moore and her husband, Louis Moore, of Garland, TX; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Born in Grosse Tête, LA, on July 25, 1922, he was the son of Clement James (Jimmy) and Mary Helena (Lena Solari) Roubique. He is preceded in death by sisters, Adelaide Stevens, Vivia Bush, and Gloria Heintze; and one brother, Kenneth Roubique.
Mr. Roubique graduated from White Castle High School in Louisiana in 1939. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943, and served during WWII as an aerial photographer at Eglin Field, FL Air Force Proving Ground until his honorable discharge in 1946. He attended Louisiana State University, graduating in 1950 with a Master of Science degree. In 1949, he married Jo An Garrene of Baton Rouge, and they moved to Colorado, where Mr. Roubique went to work for the National Bureau of Standards as a scientist developing instrumentation that was used all over the world for making atmospheric and geologic measurements.
Mr. Roubique met and married his second wife, Eleanor Kimmell, in 1963. In 1976, they moved to Arvada, where Mrs. Roubique still resides. The same year, they purchased property in the Quartz Creek Properties above Pitkin, CO, and built a vacation home where they spent every summer. In 2013, they had a party in the Pitkin Town Hall, celebrating Mr. Roubique’s 90th birthday. Mr. Roubique requested a celebration of life be held in Pitkin this summer, on his 95th birthday, in lieu of a memorial service on the occasion of his passing.
Mr. Roubique enjoyed many hobbies, being very active in the North Jeffco Gem & Mineral Society, volunteering in the fossil lab and Space Odyssey exhibit at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, and at the historic Molly Brown House in Denver, and serving for a time as the president of the Boulder Orchid Society.
