Obituary for Valoris A. "Goldie" Golden

Valoris A. "Goldie" Golden
Valoris Austin Golden, Jr.
August 19, 1924 - October 7, 2017
Age, 93
Residence: Arvada, Colorado

Valoris “Val” Austin Golden, Jr. was born on August 19, 1924 in Iliff, Colorado to Valoris and Louise (Lartigue) Golden. The youngest of four children, Val began working in a grocery store at age 13 until he enlisted in the U. S. Navy in July of 1943. Before enlisting in the Navy, Val met and then married the love of his life, Alicia Bondy on April 14, 1945 in San Diego, Ca. Alicia moved around the country as Val was stationed on both the east and west coasts of the states. Alicia passed in December of 2010 with her and Val having loved and enjoyed over sixty-five beautiful years together.

After an Honorable Discharge from the Navy in December of 1945, Val and Alicia returned to the Denver area where Val returned to the grocery business again until Sept. 1, 1951 when he began his career with the Denver Fire Department serving for 25 years before retiring. Alicia and Val, or “Lish” and “Goldie” as they were known by their family, were the ultimate parents\grandparents. You were always welcome in their home and never left hungry. The “family cabin” located in Coal Creek Canyon, which Goldie bought from one of his fellow fireman in 1958, was frequently a gathering place for the whole family and still is to this date. Goldie was known for making his famous bologna sauce and his delicious meatballs, an art he most likely learned cooking at the firehouse.

Valoris is survived by his daughters; Cheryl Brandenburg, Arvada, CO, Susie (William) Feirstein, Denver, CO, Laurie (Tom) Hamblen, Evans, CO, sons; Jeff (Dawn) Golden, Westminister, CO, Joe (Karen) Golden, Littleton, CO along with ten grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great- grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John Golden and Arlie Golden and his sister, Lucille Davis.
