Eulogy for John Lee Garcia
John Lee Garcia, age 84 was born October 23, 1933 in Denver Colorado. He went home to be with the Lord on Sunday November 5, 2017. John married his beautiful bride Bernice yvonne Garcia (Romero) on December 1, 1952, they were married for 60 years. Bernice went to heaven on January 27,2012. Together they have 6 children and 2 adopted sons, Anthony, Steve, Gary, Sherry/husband Tony, Marianne/husband Joe, Jeanette/husband Frank, Frank/wife Laurie and Tony. They also have 20 grandchildren- Jonette, Jason, Andrea, Janelle, Steve, Joey, Shirleen, Samuel, Stephanie, Nathan, Brandon, Laura, Jennifer, Jonathan, JoAnne, Chris, Kellie, Jasmine, Sean Joseph, LillyAnna, and Ashleigh. They have 33 Great-Grandchildren- Emilio, Bobby, Jeremiah, Lauren, Eric, Savannah, Marlena, Veronica, Genesis, Isaiah, Jordan, Arianna, Andrea, Donavon, Israel, Natalia, Siara, Emmalynn, Haley, Riley, Frankie Angel, Andrew, Diego, Izaac, Michael, Gabriel, Noah, Jeremiah, AJ, Christopher, Mariah and Aaliyah and Elisio. 1 Great-Great Grandson Jedidiah.
John served in the United States Air Force Armed Forces, where he was an Airman Second Class, during the Korean War. He worked for Shwayder Brothers/Samsonite for a few years before he became employed for the City&County of Denver as a truck driver for 34 years before he retired in 1996.
John was a devoted husband and loving Daddy, Pops, Grandfather, Brother in law, Uncle and Friend. He enjoyed his family and the time he spent with them. He recently enjoyed spending his 84th birthday with 75 friends and family on a beautiful Sunday afternoon a week before his passing.
In the year 1999 John became real sick due to both of his kidneys failing, he was put on dialysis and we all prayed to be a match to donate a kidney for him. Unfortunately none of his natural born children were a match, but as the Lord would have it one of his adopted son’s Frank Garcia was a perfect match as a kidney donor and he gave him one of his kidneys in the year 2000, which we were all so grateful for. After Bernice passing in 2012 his son Gary lived with him for a few years until his daughter Jeanette and her husband Frank took over as he required more care on a daily basis. Really though it was a family effort with his other 2 daughters as well, Sherry and Marianne too, taking him to Dr’s appointments and taking care of his finances, and was a labor of love for all of his children to help out.
John always had the best sense of humor always saying something funny and always made everyone laugh. As his daughter Marianne best explained it, “He was another Jerry Lewis” When he was in the hospital getting poked and prodded, the nurses thought he was the best patient and just adorable. They cried when he passed.
More importantly then all, John loved the Lord Jesus Christ will all of his heart when he gave his heart to the Lord in 1974. He and his wife attended Living Waters Tabernacle for over 20 years, as well as Living Word Tabernacle church for over 10 years. They were active in both churches when they attended together either cooking breakfasts and dinner fellowships, or serving on the board as John did at Living Word as they called him El Presidente’. They did so many things together for 60 years, and when his beloved wife passed he went from the quiet reserved person to the head honcho of the family, giving advice, writing out cards which he would always sign DAD and MOM, ALWAYS GO WITH GOD!!
