Obituary of Paul Hansen

Paul Karl Hansen, aged 57, passed away late Wednesday evening, July 5, 2023, after a seven month battle with throat cancer.

Paul was the youngest of 3 children born on September 30, 1965 in Denver, Colorado to Jim and Judy Hansen. He was preceded in death by his mother, Judith Ann Valdez (Kerr) and his brother Erik Hansen. He is survived by his wife Bridget Hansen, daughter Chelsea Hansen, son Matt Hansen, father Jim Hansen, brother Chris Hansen, and grandchildren Abigail, Rebecca and Joanna Hansen.

Paul was an avid aviation enthusiast and classic car aficionado. He began training for his pilot’s license in his late 40’s and even owned a couple airplanes before time and money prevented him from fulfilling his dream to be a pilot. He also loved tinkering on cars and his last project was a restoration of a 1976 Cadillac Seville. He was diagnosed with cancer shortly after bringing it home and was never able to finish it. Throughout his life he always had a vehicle he was working on, either fixing it up or doing a full-blown restoration.

Paul was known for his sense of humor, dry wit and his Monday and Friday posts on Facebook. He was always able to make people laugh and his smile would light up the room.

Paul worked for the BLM for 24 years, initially being brought on for Y2K and then moving on to the National Help Desk, Network Operations and ultimately becoming the Audiovisual and Collaboration Systems Engineer for the Bureau. He was passionate about his job and the people he worked with, many of them becoming close friends.

He met his wife, Bridget, at the BLM in 2007 and they finally decided to make it official and were married in September of 2018. They built their house in Arvada and moved to their forever home in 2019. He spent many hours building a large retaining wall, installing a sprinkler system and toodling around on his John Deere tractor that he restored. He loved working in the yard and was so proud of what he had created.

He will be laid to rest in Arvada Cemetery and a celebration of his life will be held in early October. Paul was loved by many and his memory will live on in our hearts forever. He is sorely missed.
