Sharon Levit

Obituary of Sharon L Levit

Sharon Lea (Moon) Levit was born on June 22nd, 1937 in South Bend, IN. She was the daughter of Dora Irene Moon and Kermit Earl Moon.

After graduating from Washington High School in 1955, she went to work for American Airlines at Midway Airport in Chicago. There she met the love of her life, Russell Levit. She used to send weather related messages to pilots in the cockpit via teletype, and Russ worked for the phone company repairing teletypes. “I wouldn’t let anyone else touch my equipment”, she would joke.

Russell and Sharon married, Kathy Ann was born in 1958, and moved to Romeoville, IL within a year. Russ’s three sons, Daniel, Rory, and Gary joined the family several months later, and in 1960 Penny Lea was born. All seven managed to live in a 3 bedroom/1 bath/900 square foot house!

Sharon was a firm and caring mother, and a loving wife. She helped her children flourish in life and made sure they all followed the rules! She went through spelling bee practice, cheerleading practice, College weekends, Navy ceremonies, new jobs, transportation, household chores, and cooking lessons. For a short time, she was an Easterling China salesperson, which she enjoyed very much. She adored her beloved dog, Igor. She was a talented seamstress and made everything from Barbie doll clothes, to her daughter Kathy’s wedding dress.

Russ and Sharon spent as much time as they could traveling around the world and the United States.

In October of 1976, Russ, Sharon, and Penny moved to Colorado. Sharon made their new home beautiful and open to friends and relatives to visit.

She was a grandmother to Jason Levit, Paul Levit, Cameron Woodlee, and a Great Grandmother to Jonathan Levit, and thrived in that role.

Family and friends were very important to Russ and Sharon. Especially during Christmas time, where they would invite everyone to go on hayrides while singing around the neighborhood. Sharon continued to be the ultimate hostess by hosting family dinners year after year, with the most amazing meals.  The one thing that everyone will say about Sharon is that she was a wonderful cook.

Sharon lost her beloved husband in 2016, after 58 years of marriage.  She continued to ‘live’ with dementia at Renew Saddle Rock Memory Care, where they took great care of her, until her final day of August 6th, 2023. She is survived by Kathy (Kurt) Schlegel, Penny (Ron) Ester, Gary Levit, Jason, Paul (Megan), Jonathan, and Cameron, along with many family members and friends who loved her so.

Up until her last days, she had a smile that could light up a room.

She will forever be missed.
