Obituary of Ronald Downing

Ronald “Ron” Downing, 79, Arvada, CO, died August 5, 2023, in his home.

Ron was born in Alexandria, MN on October 12, 1943 to Edwin and Luella (Glebe) Downing. He grew up on a dairy farm near Miltona, MN. After graduating from Jefferson Senior High School in Alexandria, he attended the North Dakota State School of Science were he studied electronics.

Ron then pursued work in the oil exploration industry in Midland, TX, Calgary, Canada and Denver, CO. He later worked in utility construction and eventually worked at and retired from the Samsonite Company in Denver.

He was a very private person and immersed himself in hobbies of Ham Radio operations, gold dredging, metal detection, numerous collections of Boy Scout and US Military memorabilia, and collecting stamps and coins from all over the world.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by: Brothers, Larry Downing (Cynthia) of Croton-on-Hudson, NY and Virgil Downing (Vivian) of Loveland, CO; and two nieces and a nephew.
