Obituary of Nyda Elodine Rudy

Nyda Elodine Rudy passed away peacefully at the age of 96, on November 8, 2023.  She  was born April 30, 1927, in Clarksburg, West Virginia to Joseph Floyd and Sarah Mae (Weaver) Cottrill.  Nyda, and her eleven brothers and sisters, grew up on a small farm in Wolf Summit, WV.  After graduating from Bristol High School in 1946, she  moved to Baltimore, MD where she met and married the love of her life, William James Rudy, who had recently returned home from fighting in the Philippines during WWII.   They moved to Denver, Colorado and had five children.

Nyda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She supported her husband through both his undergraduate and graduate programs on the GI Bill. She and Bill nurtured their children in a close Christian household.  As a loving mother, she encouraged and supported her children in their many endeavors while also helping raise many other children as a babysitter.  She was an outstanding cook, avid nutritionist, and loved the outdoors – passions she passed onto to her children and grandchildren.  Nyda and Bill loved Colorado and traveling throughout the United States with their children, hiking, visiting ghost towns, historic sites, and many extended family members throughout the country.   After retiring, she and Bill also traveled throughout Europe and Asia.   They were married 43 years before his passing in 1991.   Nyda later became an active member of the Colorado Mountain Club where she loved to hike and cross country ski.  She continued to travel, enjoying many areas of the US, including taking a dip in the Arctic circle near Barrow, Alaska.

Nyda is survived by her younger brothers, Mack, Jack and his wife, Nancy, her five  children and their families:  Steve (Ronda) Rudy; Billy (Kathy) Rudy; Mark Rudy; Ramona (Karl) Peterson; Katy (Tim) Becker; grand children Hannibal (Tiffany), Rena (Ryan), Bethany, Rachel, Rebecca, Kaleb, Elissa, James (Eirisch), Britany (Jared) and Nicole; and great grandchildren Will, Lila Mae, Lyndon, Harper, Elodine, Azriel, Elijah, Colin, and Jay.

Nyda was preceded in death by her siblings Landa, Bonnie, Verna, Loretta, Judy, Juanita, Raymond, Amos and Lonnie.
