Obituary of Shirley Jean Beaty

Shirley Jean Beaty was born on September 3, 1936 in Golden Colorado to Lloyd Hamilton & Mabel Watson. Her last days were spent with her loving husband and family at her side. She passed away from this life peacefully on December 13, 2023 at the age of 87.

Shirley lived most of her young life in Golden, Colorado, except for some early years when her father worked in various lumber mills in Colorado and Idaho. She often recounted the challenges of living in these camps during the cold and snowy winters and the many adventures exploring the woods with her much admired older brothers, Jim and Bill who no doubt “toughened up” their little sister. That “toughness”, as well as her tenderness, would serve her well throughout her life.

While attending Golden High School, at the age of Sixteen Shirley met the love of her life and the man that would become her husband, William Boyd Beaty. They were wed on June 28th, 1953. Boyd and Shirley celebrated 70 years of marriage in the presence of their family and friends this past June.

Boyd and Shirley welcomed their oldest son, Larry Beaty on May 11, 1954 and Gary Beaty on March 2, 1956. Later, they adopted their youngest son, Craig Beaty, born July 22, 1968. They lived in Wheat Ridge in their early married years and spent the last 56 in their beloved home in west Arvada.

Shirley spent most of her years as a devoted and caring Homemaker. Her affinity for baking and cooking made every holiday and special occasion a treat for her whole family. She was especially beloved for her amazing Pecan Pies and Fudge at Thanksgiving and Christmas. She also made a mean Green Chile that, when poured over burritos, became a favorite Christmas tradition.

While she spent most of her time as a homemaker, once her boys were a little older, she worked at the Jolly Rancher candy factory for several years as well as Cobe Laboratories.

After 38 years of service on the Union Pacific Railroad, Boyd retired in 1992. Boyd and Shirley were active members in the Good Sam RV Club and in retirement they traveled to many “Samborees” with their 5th wheel camper. They experienced many of the scenic and historical sites throughout the United States while making memories and lifelong friendships with many fellow RVers.
